OKLAHOMA CITY -

A man was arrested on DUI and drug charges after leading an Oklahoma County Sheriff's deputy on a pursuit in Oklahoma City, Monday night.

According to the Sheriff's office, at about 10:40 p.m., a deputy attempted to stop a pickup truck that ran a stop sign at S.W. 29th and S. Independence. However, the driver refused to stop. That's when the chase began.

During the pursuit, authorities said the driver, later identified as 33-year-old Agustin Melendez, was seen tossing out two bags. Both bags were eventually recovered and marijuana was found inside of them.

According to the Sheriff's office, Melendez continued driving dangerously into oncoming traffic. After deputies attempted a tactical vehicle intervention (TVI), Melendez stopped in the area of Newcastle Road and S. Portland Avenue.

Melendez admitted to drinking several shots of liquor before getting behind the wheel and driving. He also admitted that he didn't have insurance and was driving with a revoked license, according to the Sheriff's office.

Melendez was arrested on several complaints, including DUI, destruction of evidence, felony eluding, possession of marijuana, driving with a revoked license, no insurance, and failure to stop at a stop sign.

Melendez is currently being held at the Oklahoma County Jail on $6,996.30 bond.
