OKC Park Gets Taste Of Spring During Arctic Freeze

As the arctic air hovers over the area, one of Oklahoma City's oldest parks was treated to a taste of spring.

Horticulturalists at Will Rogers Gardens braved the cold temperatures Friday to plant 100,000 tulip and daffodil bulbs at the Charles E. Sparks Rose Garden.

That garden is getting a makeover to become a color display, including annuals for each season. Earlier this year, the roses in the garden were wiped out by a contagious rose virus, according to city officials.

OKC Parks & Recreation's Jennifer Lindsey-McClintock said a blanket of bright colors will cover the two-acre garden space when the bulbs bloom.
