OKLAHOMA CITY -

Sadly, hundreds of kids across the metro don't have a coat to keep them warm this winter. But thanks to a metro business, students at one Oklahoma City public school won't have that problem.

All 400 plus students on Thursday took home a jacket donated by Access Midstream.

“Coats are a necessity in Oklahoma for sure in the winter and we know the cold snap is coming next weekend. So it's not just getting it today, but it's getting it and putting it to use immediately. That makes you feel good to know that the kids are going to have something they need to face the winter,” said Chris Callahan with Access Midstream.

And with chilly temperatures around the corner, 6th grader Michael was pretty excited to get a coat.

“Since Access Midstream is coming with some coats, I was like ‘It's our lucky day!,'” said Michael Chapell.

Michael considers himself lucky. His new orange coat is the second winter jacket he'll have this year. But he knows that for many of his friends, this jacket may be their only one.

Oklahoma City Public Schools are still needing help to complete the "Coat-A-Kid" campaign.
