OKLAHOMA CITY -

The Medical Examiner's office stated on Monday that the woman who was killed on Halloween in northwest Oklahoma City was shot in the back of the head.

Oklahoma City police identified the victim as 26-year-old Lauren Maguffee Totten. A search of court records showed Totten to be a mother, who leaves behind a 3-year-old child. And court papers state the man who's accused of shooting her was after her prescription pills.

The suspect has been identified as 26-year-old Darren Gouge and he is currently being held at the Oklahoma County Jail without bond.

On Monday he went before a judge for his video arraignment. Gouge stands accused of both first-degree murder and armed robbery. News 9 checked and found out that Gauge is no stranger to the system. We learned that he has a long list of prior arrests, but has never served prison time.

According to court papers, police talked with two eyewitnesses at the scene who identified Gouge, or "D" as they knew him, as the man who pulled the trigger Friday afternoon at a duplex near NW 15th St. and Miller.

Those same court papers state "D" pulled the gun on the victim demanding her pills and shot her during the robbery of those prescription tablets.

Police found Gouge near SW 44th and Independence, after someone called about a man trying to break into cars in the area. He was there when police arrived and managed to take him into custody for the murder without incident.

Neighbors who live around the area said they have seen a lot of people going in and out of that house since the summer and feared it centered around drug activity. But they said they were shocked and saddened to hear about the young woman's death. And many say they wish something could have been done before her life was cut tragically short.

Police have not said if Totten and Gouge knew each other or if she was picked at random.
