Several Tulsans Lose Homes In Apartment Fire

Several people were left without a place to live after an overnight Tulsa apartment fire. Investigators are still looking into its cause and would like to speak to the resident who lives at the burned second story apartment.

Tulsa Fire Captain Mike Burgess said crews were called to a small complex at 532 South Atlanta Avenue just before midnight and discovered flames and smoke coming from an upstairs apartment. There was no one home at that apartment, but firefighters helped a person in a wheelchair down from a nearby unit, he said.

It took about 35 minutes to completely extinguish the fire, according to Burgess. Four to six units were damaged by either water, smoke or fire. Some of the apartments were unoccupied, but he estimated that five to eight residents were displaced.

Burgess said the apartment that burned didn't have many belongings in it, and investigators want to talk to the person who lives there.

One person was taken to the hospital due to what was believed to be a medical condition that wasn't directly related to the fire. Another person needed treatment at the scene for smoke inhalation.

The Red Cross and the property representative were en route to help the residents, according to TFD.
