Yousif Family Responds On 'Guilty' Verdict In Road Rage Murder Trial

There was a very emotional reaction outside the courtroom Wednesday evening after 59-year-old David Bloebaum was found guilty of the first-degree murder of 29-year-old Jason Yousif outside of a Target department store.

It took jurors a little more than an hour to return the verdict. Bloebaum gunned down Yousif after a road rage incident in the parking lot of the Super Target near Penn and Memorial. Nearly two years since the incident, the family says they finally have justice for Jason.

Immense emotion poured out of the courtroom immediately following a guilty verdict. Bloebaum showed no emotion as the judge read the verdict.

“It is a relief, but it's not going to bring my son back no matter what they give him, how many years, life or death,” said Jason's mother, Annie Yousif.

“His family can visit him every weekend. He can call them every day,” said Jason's father, Mike Yousif. “We can never talk to our son.”

It was around 4:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, 2012. Prosecutors said Bloebaum followed Yousif into the parking lot, then instigated a confrontation because of road rage.

“When you shoot somebody twice and the person is running away for their life, and you turn around and shoot them three more times in the back, that guy should get the death penalty,” said Mike. “Not just life in prison. That's not fair. He had a very bright future ahead of him.”

But defense attorneys held on to their argument throughout the five-day trial that Bloebaum acted in "self-defense" when Yousif threatened him with a knife.

“My son doesn't have a knife. That's not his knife. He doesn't carry knives.”

And evidence showed that to be the case. Prosecutors said Bloebaum baited Jason over to his car, rolled down his window, and shot him five times, three of those in the back.

“My son didn't do anything to deserve what he has got. He was trying to get away from all this,” said Mike.

“He got justice and that man got what he deserved, which is life without parole. He can never come out and hurt anybody or do that to anybody else,” said Annie.

The family told News 9 Jason's birthday would have been Thursday. He left behind a young son.

The jury recommended a sentence of life without parole. Formal sentencing for Bloebaum is set for Friday, Nov. 14.
