The body of woman was discovered in Chickasha, and investigators said they are trying to figure out how she died and why no one seemed to notice for about a month and a half. News 9 learned her identity, but police said they are still trying to track down her family.
Marker flags were there Monday, but for nearly six weeks, it was where a woman's body lay unfound until Friday when a city worker started mowing the tall grass near a small creek that runs through the north part of town. It had been overgrown for a while.
“He thought this time he'd go down there and try to mow those weeds close to the creek bottom where the water is,” Ray Ferguson said.
However, something caught the worker's eye including a pair shoes, a backpack with books and human hair. The woman's body was found in one area, and her head found closer to the creek.
For days Chickasha Police and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) poured over the area and say the case is suspicious.

“The detective came up here and knocked on the door, and he asked me if I knew anything about people being out in the woods,” James Sherwood said.
It was the creek that draws people. It has been a local fishing hole for decades.
“Everybody wanders this creek. Everybody,” one resident said.
It was a gruesome scene overgrown with weeds and questions.
News 9 was told the woman was homeless and had only been in the Chickasha area for about a year. Authorities said they are in the process of contacting her family, who lives in Colorado.
