Oklahoma City Friends Really Get Into Halloween Spirit

Candy, costumes, and scares. Those three things mean one special holiday is around the corner: Halloween. And when it comes to decorating for the holiday, a jack-o-lantern and a few cobwebs are not enough for one group of friends living near Mesta Park.

Best friends Wendy Cook, Victoria Baker and their husbands spend weeks transforming their historic home into a place where things go bump in the night.

“It started out with her husband under a sheet with fake blood. We were sitting on the porch just handing out candy,” said Wagmore Manor Homeowner, Wendy Cook.

Five years later, Wagmore Manor has transformed into a haunted pirate-themed house, complete with a pirate ship, tombstones and a howling prisoner trapped in a tree.

“Halloween is not just a holiday, it's a lifestyle. This is what we do. We live for this all year long. We love it,” said Cook.

It's also what they save for all year.

“We've got a jar sitting in the kitchen counter that any time we've got extra change or money in our pocket we just throw it in the jar. Eventually, we get quite a bit. We save up for this. People save up to go on trips, we save up to buy more scaffolding,” said Cook's friend, Victoria Baker.

Come Friday night, no one is safe from a good scare.

“[Anyone is] fair game. One night we get to be who we want to be and nobody gives us any grief about it,” said Cook.

Wagmore Manor dishes out plenty of candy to kiddos dressed up, but they also ask anyone who stops by to donate to one of their favorite charities, OK Save a Dog.
