OKLAHOMA CITY -

This weekend the federal government announced it will recognize same sex-marriage in six new states. It's been less than three weeks since same-sex marriage became legal in Oklahoma and a massive matrimonial ceremony is already in the works.

Advocates said the mass wedding ceremony is historic for Oklahoma, so that's why they decided to hold it at the State Capitol.

Same-sex couples have been waiting to plan their wedding for years, and now they can put those plans in motion. Vision of Love Ministries is holding the first ever mass same-sex wedding in Oklahoma.

“There are a lot of people who want to celebrate together," said Minister Shamia Jackson.

Jackson will officiate the ceremony on Nov. 24 at 7 p.m. on the 4th floor rotunda of the State Capitol.

"It's a beautiful thing. I feel blessed to be a part of it...I feel like I've waited, I've had faith that something like this would happen," she said.

It happened on Oct. 6. The Supreme Court struck down the state's ban on same-sex marriage. Some couples couldn't wait. Dozens got marriage licenses that afternoon, and said, "I do" that night.

Advocates said the mass ceremony next month is sure to bring as much joy as some of the first in the state.

"To be able to come together, you know, and celebrate this together, not just marriage, but the law, you know, the rights that are being afforded to the people," Jackson said, referring to the group event's significance.

Organizers said they expect at least 100 couples to take part. Jackson said straight couples are welcome to be married in the ceremony as well.

Members of the public are welcome to attend, you just have to register.
