Police arrested the driver of a pickup they say hit an SUV and then ran from the scene Thursday night.

The crash happened at 11:30 p.m. at 53rd and Lewis.

Police said the SUV was turning onto 53rd Street when a southbound 2002 Dodge Dakota pickup truck crossed over and clipped its rear end. The Dakota then rolled once landing on its wheels off the roadway.

The woman driving the SUV said the other driver got out of his truck and ran to a nearby apartment complex. Witnesses told police the man appeared to be intoxicated.

Officer located the man a short time later in the 6100 block of South Lewis and arrested him. They identify him as Timothy Hammons, 21.

Police say Hammons told officers he thought he had fallen asleep prior to the crash and ran away because he was scared.

Officers booked him into the Tulsa County jail on complaints of leaving the scene of an accident, DUI and possession of marijuana.  Jail records show he has a court appearance set for October 31, 2014.

The woman driving the SUV wasn't hurt.
