OKLAHOMA CITY -

An Oklahoma City woman said a mistake involving her PikePass almost cost her lot of money.

When you sell or trade your car, probably the last thing you think about is grabbing your PikePass.

Andrea Decker of Oklahoma City said that's exactly what happened to her. It wasn't until three years after she sold her car that she thumbed through dozens of pages, hundreds of lines of transactions of her PikePass bill. That's when she realized someone else was able to travel the turnpike using the PikePass, and she was getting the bill.

"I didn't want anyone else to make the mistake we had made. It was our fault. We were distracted," Decker said.

“People do forget and then realize it down the road that there are charges for a vehicle they don't have anymore. Then call us and we try to work it out with them to get the situation resolved,” said Jack Damrill with the Oklahoma Turnpike Authorities.

So while the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority will help Decker or anyone else who forgets about their Pike Pass, they're reminding people to disconnect it by going online.

In fact, the Turnpike Authority asks you keep that pass stuck on the windshield of the car, because the next owner can reactivate it using their name and paying for it themselves.
