A Collinsville woman injured when pieces of concrete from a bridge dropped on her car has been upgraded to fair condition, News On 6 has learned.

Authorities say Shannon Durham was driving southbound on U.S. 75 when she drove under the Archer Avenue overpass at 5:30 p.m. Monday.

That's when several pieces of concrete fell from the overpass and hit her Nissan sedan. A chunk went through the driver's side windshield and hit her on the head, according to Tulsa Police Sergeant Chris Witt.

Durham's car continued for about a tenth of a mile, hitting a guardrail on the right before crossing the highway and coming to rest against a guardrail on the opposite side, an Oklahoma Highway Patrol report states.

The 37-year-old Durham was taken to a Tulsa hospital with serious injuries to her head, arm and torso.

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation said just as Durham was about to drive under the bridge, another car up above on Archer, hit a guardrail with enough force to knock loose the concrete that fell.

An initial inspection, shortly after the wreck, determined the bridge is structurally sound and the damage is only cosmetic.

A family member of Durham said she has a head injury, a broken nose and bruises over her entire body.

She said the family appreciates all the thoughts and prayers for Durham, and asks for those prayers to continue.

That family member also said Durham is a strong person and a fighter, and will get better.

An ODOT inspector will take a second look at the damage on the side of the bridge, to determine how quickly any repairs will need to be made.
