It doesn't seem like it's time for basketball to be starting but the Oklahoma City Thunder had its first preseason game Wednesday night, falling to the Denver Nuggets, 114-101.

The Thunder struggled mightily shooting the ball, hitting just 37 percent from floor—compared to Denver's 57 percent clip—and 4-of-19 from 3-point range. The Thunder played mostly new players and young players, resting Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook after 12 and 13 minutes of game action, respectively.

Serge Ibaka, Nick Collison, Perry Jones and Kendrick Perkins didn't play due to injuries.

Durant had 11 points in his 12 minutes, while Westbrook had just four points. The dynamic tandem for OKC against the Nuggets was the young post combo of Steven Adams and Mitch McGary.

Adams had 15 points, all but one in the first quarter, and McGary finished with 14 points. Adams' struggles with fouling and free throws did not vanish over the summer. He fouled out in 21 minutes and hit 1-of-5 from the charity stripe. McGary showed impressive range, stepping back and hitting several 20-foot jump shots during the game.

OKC forced 24 turnovers and showed a renewed commitment to defense and offensive ball movement in the first half.

Jeremy Lamb struggled mightily shooting the ball, hitting just 1-of-14 from the field and missed all six of his 3-point attempts. However, he didn't stop being aggressive, getting to the free throw line consistently and knocking down 9-of-10 attempts. He finished with 11 points.

Anthony Morrow was the only other Thunder player in double figures with 10 points.

Timofey Mozgov led the Nuggets with 20 points while Ty Lawson had 12 points and Darrell Arthur chipped in with 11.
