Oklahoma Volleyball Puts On Offensive Clinic In Win

The OU volleyball team hit .308 and had just 13 attack errors in a dominating 3-1 road win over West Virginia.

The University of Oklahoma volleyball team remained undefeated in Big 12 play with a 3-1 win at West Virginia, Wednesday evening. The Sooners are now 12-4 overall and 3-0 in league play, while the Mountaineers dropped to 11-7 and 1-3.

The first two sets went to OU by scores of 25-17 and 25-12 before WVU forced a fourth set by winning the third, 25-20. The Sooners finished off the match with a 25-15 win in the fourth by hitting .500 in the set.

Oklahoma hit better than .350 in all three sets won and just .051 in the third. For the match, the Sooners outhit the Mountaineers .308 to .067.

Redshirt-sophomore outside hitter Madison Ward led the Sooners with 16 kills and just one error for a .395 attack rate, while adding seven digs. Junior outside hitter Kierra Holst finished second on the team with 13 kills and a .312 hitting percentage. Sophomore middle blocker Micaela Spann hit a match-high .571 on nine kills and one error to go with six blocks.

Junior setter Julia Doyle dished out 40 assists, including 13 in the first set, and totaled 12 digs for her fourth double-double of the season. Junior libero Taylor Migliazzo led the Sooner defense with 13 digs. Freshman middle blocker Marion Hazelwood chipped in with five kills and five blocks.

West Virginia's attack was led by outside hitter Jordan Anderson with 14 kills, while middle blocker Caleah Wells contributed 10 kills.

The Mountaineers split the setting duties between Brittany Sample and Lamprini Konstantinidou. Sample led the squad with 20 assists. Libero Gianna Gotterba collected a match-high 16 digs.

The Sooners return to action Sunday afternoon at Iowa State for a 1:30 p.m. match that will be broadcast nationally on ESPNU.

Notes:

- Doyle notched her fourth double-double of the season and 17th of her career.

- The win marked the 100th for head coach Santiago Restrepo in Big 12 matches.

- The Sooners lead the all-time series against West Virginia, 6-0.

- Oklahoma opened Big 12 play 3-0 for the first time since starting 4-0 in 2011.

- The win was just the second in six true road matches for the Sooners this season.

- Since posting just four kills in three matches in North Carolina, Ward has totaled 52 in the last three matches.

- Holst has tallied double digit kills in 10 of the last 11 matches.

- In Big 12 play, Ward is hitting .414 and averaging 4.33 kills per set, while Holst is averaging 4.17 per set.
