Dustin Weed has no use for his dialysis machine anymore.

“I should put it in the closet,” he laughed on Monday.

Just about two weeks ago he got the kidney he'd been waiting years for.

“I don't even think I slept after the transplant. I was so excited.”

After seeing the story, News 9 viewers stepped up, donating more than three times the amount he needed. Since then, Dustin has been to the hospital twice hoping for a transplant, but both times the donated organ wasn't viable. However, late in September he received another call.

“Doctor came in and said I'm like 99.9% sure you're going to get it. So that's when I realized it was going to happen,” said Weed.

But Dustin, a single father, knows it wouldn't have happened without the generosity of a lot of people. Not only to all who donated money, but the family of the 33 year old who donated the organ.

“I got their loved one's kidney in me so I would like to meet them and thank them.”

Dustin still has months of healing, but someone who saw the original story also offered him a job and he says he's going to take it.

“Move on with life,” said Dustin.

Dustin has also started a kidney awareness Facebook page to share what he's learned.
