Cleveland Co. DA Holds News Conference On Beheading Suspect Charges

MOORE, Oklahoma -

The Cleveland County District Attorney held a news conference Tuesday morning concerning charges against a man accused of beheading a woman and stabbing another one at Vaughan Foods in Moore, Oklahoma, last Thursday.

Alton Nolen, 30, has been charged with first-degree murder, assault and battery with a deadly weapon, and assault with a deadly weapon, DA Greg Mashburn said during the conference.

According to Moore police, last Thursday, Nolen, who had just been suspended from Vaughan Foods, beheaded 54-year-old Colleen Hufford and stabbed 43-year-old Traci Johnson in the front office area.

Off-duty reserve deputy Mark Vaughan, who is also the COO of the business, fired shots at Nolen and ended the attack. Nolen and Johnson are in stable condition.

Moore police said they have asked the FBI to investigate Nolen's background, because co-workers said Nolen had just converted to Islam, and he had been trying to convert other employees as well.
