MUSTANG, Oklahoma -

OnStar operators helped Oklahoma and Mustang Police track down a car burglary suspect.

A woman reported her Chevy Equinox was stolen out of Mustang and police tracked it down to the Surrey Hills neighborhood.

News 9 pilot Jim Gardner was over the scene to cover the story and noticed another vehicle ditched nearby.

“We might need to get them over here and check that vehicle backed into the trees over here,” said Gardner.

The vehicle was a white Ford pickup and it belonged to Brad Foster.

“Panic really kind of sets in, you know, and you just are, like right now, I'm at a loss for words,” Foster told News 9.

Someone had stolen Foster's truck, too, and he was tracking the iPad he had left inside the truck through the "Find My iPhone" app.

The app gives exact locations of registered devices.

“I was chasing an iPad, not my truck, so I wasn't expecting to find a truck, I just happened to stumble upon it with helicopters and cop cars around it,” Foster said.

Foster pulled up to the scene shortly after the cops. He saw his truck backed into a wooded area by a creek.

“I was in shock, I was surprised that someone would treat a vehicle that way,” Foster added.

While Gardner directed police to the second vehicle he spotted in the woods, the suspect suddenly ran out of the wooded area and right into the arms of the police.

“Oh, they got him on the ground over here,” Gardner excitedly said.

Police arrested 22-year-old Cody Cumpton at the scene and recovered two stolen vehicles in the process.

“Nobody ever said criminals are smart,” Foster said.

Foster said he knows of Cumpton from his neighborhood and he was shocked to learn his stolen truck was just five blocks away from his home.
