Authorities said former University of Oklahoma star, Adrian Peterson, turned himself in Saturday after a warrant was issued against him for injury to a child after he was indicted by a grand jury in the case.

According to Lt. Brady Fitzgerald with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, Peterson turned himself in early Saturday morning at the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office Criminal Justice Complex in Texas.

The Montgomery County jail records website shows Peterson was booked at 1:06 a.m. Saturday and released at 1:35 a.m. on a $15,000 bond.

On Friday, the following statement was released by Peterson's attorney, Rusty Hardin, on the Sports Center Twitter page:

“Adrian Peterson has been informed that he was indicted by a grand jury in Montgomery County, Texas for injury to a Child. The charged conduct involves using a switch to spank his son. This indictment follows Adrian's full cooperation with authorities who have been looking into this matter. Adrian is a loving father who used his judgment as a parent to discipline his son. He used the same kind of discipline with his child that he experienced as a child growing up in east Texas. Adrian has never hidden from what happened. He has cooperated fully with the same respect and responsiveness he has brought to this inquiry from its beginning. It is important to remember that Adrian never intended to harm his son and deeply regrets the unintentional injury.”

According to CBS Houston, the incident occurred in May in Spring, Texas. The child's mother took the boy to the doctor when he returned home from Peterson's care, and a doctor alerted authorities to what he deemed abuse. The Houston station cited law enforcement sources and police reports saying Peterson punished his 4-year-old son with a “switch,” which allegedly resulted in cuts and bruises to the child's hands, back, buttocks, ankles, legs and scrotum.

Peterson and the boy reportedly testified in front of a grand jury and the indictment was returned on Friday.
