OU Volleyball Takes Care Of Arkansas-Little Rock

The Oklahoma volleyball team picked up a 3-1 win over Arkansas-Little Rock at McCasland Field House, Thursday night.

The University of Oklahoma volleyball team picked up a 3-1 win over Arkansas-Little Rock at McCasland Field House, Thursday night. The Sooners improved to 6-2 overall and 2-0 at the NIKE Invitational, while the Trojans dropped to 5-3.

Oklahoma claimed the first set, 25-19 and fell in the second, 25-13. After trailing 11-8 in the second, UALR went on a 17-2 run to close out the set. The Sooners responded by taking the following sets by scores matching scores of 25-16.

“We talked about coming out of the gate fast and starting very tough,” coach Santiago Restrepo said. “We established pretty good rhythm on that first set, and then they took it to us in the second set and we talked about [it] after the break to come out with the same intensity as the first set; serving tough and passing better.”

Sophomore outside hitter Kimmy Gardiner led OU in kills for the third straight match at 15, while hitting .333. Junior outside hitter Kierra Holst finished second on the team at 13 and hit a team-high .407.

Junior setter Julia Doyle dished out 38 assists and notched a season-high nine digs. Junior libero Taylor Migliazzo led all players with 15 digs. Redshirt-sophomore outside hitter Madison Ward added eight kills, eight digs and four service aces.

Edina Begic and Sonja Milanovic led the Trojans with 10 kills, apiece. For the match, OU held UALR to a .188 hitting percentage, while hitting .254. At the net, the Trojans excelled with 13 blocks, led by eight from Carolee Dillard, to the Sooners four.

Oklahoma is back in action Friday night at 7 p.m. against Portland State. The NIKE Invitational wraps up with a 2 p.m. contest on Saturday against Lamar. Admission to Saturday's match is free.

Notes:

• The Sooners have used the same starting lineup in all eight matches this season.

• Oklahoma has held all eight opponents this season to an attack rate under .300.

• OU leads the all-time series against UALR, 8-1.

• Gardiner has led the Sooners in kills in four matches.
