Richard Scudder, 24, is being held at the Cleveland County Detention Center accused of first-degree murder. And while friends aren't talking about the deadly shooting, News 9 spoke with the man who tried to save the victim's life.

It was shortly after midnight that police arrived to find 21-year-old Eric James Monroe bleeding in the street here on Astoria Dr. And right by his side was a man trying to save his life.

“And I did chest compressions and started CPR until police got here,“ said Charles Golden, who lives in the home right in front of the street where the shooting took place.

Golden says he did not even know the young man he was helping, but did everything he could to try to breathe life into his bleeding body.

“He started breathing twice,” said Golden. “But after the second time, he wouldn't respond after that.”

In the dark of night, police gathered information at the scene. After questioning several people, officers arrested Scudder.

A search on Facebook shows both Scudder and Monroe listed each other as friends, and neighbors confirm to News 9 the two Oklahoma City men were visiting another friend in Moore, when the two got into a fight and were told to take it outside. They did, and that's when shots were fired.

Golden says he heard a total of 5 shots and even saw Scudder walking away.

“I come out the door and I hollered at him,” said Golden. “He stopped, put his hands up, and turned around and checked to make sure he didn't have anything on him that he was a threat.”

But as it turns out, Scudder was a threat, and is now in the Cleveland County Jail awaiting his fate.

News 9 checked and Scudder only had some minor run-ins with the law in the past. For now he is being held without bond until the DA determines what charges he will face.
