OKLAHOMA CITY -

As the earthquakes continue to shake the state, questions are popping up about what is being done to prevent them.

News 9 sat in on a special Corporation Commission meeting where experts presented the latest information on the state's earthquakes.

Oklahoma Corporation Commissioners want the public to know the state is not sitting idly by in the face of all the earthquakes we're experiencing.

At an informational meeting Tuesday, experts from the Oklahoma Geological Survey and the Commission's own oil and gas division testified the state recently got a grant to improve seismic monitoring in central Oklahoma.

They also said they are closely monitoring more than 100 disposal wells that are in areas with a history of earthquakes. And they said companies wanting to start new wells in these areas now face tougher permitting restrictions.

Experts said studies show a possible link between disposal wells and some earthquakes, but there is no clear answer for all of them.
