OKLAHOMA CITY -

It's been more than a year now since a Oklahoma City teen disappeared in Ecuador, and the family still has no answers.

August Reiger disappeared in June 2013 while hiking with his family. Since then, there have been several possible sightings of him, but nothing concrete.

“Every day that he's not here is difficult,” said Cristi Reiger, August's aunt.

August went missing from a hike on Father's Day in 2013. He had just graduated from the top of his class at Classen School of Advanced Studies in Oklahoma City and was set to begin a full-ride scholarship at the University of Oklahoma.

His disappearance is classified as a kidnapping, but his parents have never received a ransom.

“Every day they wake up without their son is just as bad as the one before, or actually, I guess it's worse,” Cristir told News 9.

Officials in Ecuador have offered a reward for August's return, the State of Oklahoma and the White House have pressured Ecuadorian officials to ramp up the search and fellow Oklahomans have held vigils for his safety.

August's family created a Facebook page, featuring updates and photos of what his parents think he may look like now.

“Put yourself in their place and it's the worst place possible, I mean, the not knowing is really difficult,” Reiger explained.

President Obama called August "a missing patriot," and missing person flyers have been put all over Ecuador.

“His family is not going to give up looking for him until they find him or some evidence that he's not with us any longer,” Reiger said.
