OKLAHOMA CITY - An Oklahoma City mother was arrested on child neglect and marijuana charges after police said neighbors found her 4-year-old daughter outside alone, standing in the rain.

According to police, at about 8 a.m. on Saturday, officers responded to the report of an abandoned child being found in a northwest Oklahoma City neighborhood. Two neighbors told police they found the child standing in front of a house in the 900 block of NW 94th Street.

The child was cold, soaked in rain, and had a bump and blood on her forehead, police said. The victim said her mom had hit her in the head and told her to get out of the house.

The child's great-grandmother gave officers permission to enter the home and talk to the mother. Officers said they believe some sort of altercation had occurred, because the furniture was turned over and broken, and that they saw blood on the floor and the furniture.

Officers said they had trouble waking up the mother, 22-year-old Ashleigh Rene Tyler. They said they could smell a strong odor of alcohol on her person.

“When officers went in and tried to speak to the mother of the child, they were unable to wake her,” said Msgt. Gary Knight with the Oklahoma City police department. “ She appeared to have been drinking.”

Tyler reportedly told police she had gotten into an altercation with her sister and brother at the house. But she did not know how her daughter's head had been injured.

Officers said they also found marijuana in the house.

That mother is being held on a $11,000 bond and is accused of child neglect and drug possession. She also had warrants out of Oklahoma County for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and domestic abuse in the presence of a minor child.

The child was treated by paramedics at the scene and has been placed in protective custody.
