September Brings Rain, Cooler Temperatures To Oklahoma

Posted: Updated:
OKLAHOMA CITY -

As we head into September, the Summer will start to wind down and we will start to see those seasonal changes occur. Daylight hours get shorter, temperatures start to cool down and rain chances start to become more frequent.

The average high to start the month in Oklahoma City is 90 degrees by Sept. 30 we'll be down to 79 degrees. September is on average our 3rd wettest month of the year with just over four inches on average. So it's no surprise that rain chances are in the forecast along with a nice cool down.

The heat will continue through Friday with mid to upper 90s for highs. Then on Friday evening, a strong cold front will arrive with clouds and good rain chances.

Along with north winds that will keep things much cooler for the upcoming weekend, rain chances look to be highest northwest of OKC on Friday evening. Overnight Friday and into Saturday those increased rain chances slide southeast across the state, before ending Saturday night into Sunday morning. Clouds will start to clear out on Sunday as well.

Unfortunately, if you like the 70s and 80s for highs it doesn't last too long this time of the year. The heat returns early next week before another cold front later in the week brings more rain.

We can't rule out a stray 100-degree day at some point this month, but I believe we can officially say goodbye to any consecutive 100-degree days or any prolonged heat wave for the rest of the year.
