OKLAHOMA CITY -

A popular pharmacy chain in our state will no longer sell tobacco products. CVS said it's a message they no longer want to send.

As of Wednesday morning, you won't be able to buy cigarettes at any CVS store in Oklahoma and throughout the country. The cigars and cigarettes have been replaced with nicotine gum and other products to help smokers kick the habit.

Back in February, the company made a move to brand its self as a health care destination. The ban was set to go into place in October, but CVS pulled the switch a month early.

The company estimated the decision would cut its overall sales by $2 billion.

The retailer said this makes CVS the first chain of national pharmacies to take tobacco products off the shelves. It's worthy to note CVS will still sell products many consider unhealthy like potato chips, candy and alcohol.

Also, CVS Caremark will now be known as CVS Health. But the signs on its roughly 7,700 drugstores won't change
