Skiatook High School renamed their Multipurpose Activity Center to honor a long-time teacher that recently passed away.

Brooks Walton taught at Skiatook High School for more than 20 years before he retired in 2013. In the spring, Walton passed away from complications connected to health challenges he faced from losing a lung over a decade ago.

“He was dearly loved by students, staff, teachers and the community,” said Skiatook High School Principal, Will Parker. “He was an inspirational teacher and person who loved life and left a lasting mark on every person he met.”

Parker said that when the Skiatook community learned of Walton's passing they petitioned the school board asking them to consider naming a building in his honor.

They chose the Skiatook Multipurpose Activity Center to be renamed the Brooks Walton Activity Center.

Walton's family is planning to have a plaque placed in the building in his honor.

Parker said they are discussing a time to have an official dedication.
