There are new developments in a bizarre murder involving a young Oklahoma wife and mother.

Investigators believe they now know who killed the 24-year-old woman inside her home in Goldsby.

News 9 talked to the husband of the woman. He said he did not think he could hold it together for an on-camera interview but said he is not sure if this recent break in the case brings any closure.

The door of the brutal murder case of Rachelle Flowers has been closed for more than four months, but investigators believe they now know the identity of a man who was spotted near the crime scene.

“We had a witness that saw an individual in that general area about the proximate time that fit kind of this description,” said McClain County Sheriff Don Hewett. “We had no name, didn't know who he was, didn't know where he came from, did not know where he went, because we searched that whole area. We could not find a vehicle. We could not find any evidence whatsoever.”

Until now. Evidence taken from the scene turned up a positive DNA match to 46-year-old Michael Hair, a registered sex offender.

“He'd served time for first degree rape out of Grady County,” said Hewett. “He had a 2000 charge here in McClain County of indecent exposure.”

In fact, Hair served about nine years in prison and was released in 2009. Now, detectives say he is the one who killed Flowers.

“There were some paper towels that he tried to use to ignite the fire,” said Hewett. “There was some fluid and fluid canister. We got some off of that, and there were some other items that we knew that he had touched.”

Flowers' husband says they had no idea who Hair was and had never met him. Investigators say Hair worked as an electrician, and they aren't sure if he had ever met Flowers through a job or maybe ran into her at the Blanchard Sonic, where she worked.

In another bizarre twist in the case, Hair committed suicide two weeks to the day after detectives say he killed Flowers, shooting himself at about 3 a.m. in the middle of the street at a trailer park.

He may be gone, but his DNA isn't.

“He definitely was at the scene,” said Hewett. “He definitely was the one that tried to burn the house down.”

Authorities say Flowers may have caught Hair burglarizing her home, because inside his truck they found several stolen items taken during a burglary in Oklahoma City.
