Tulsa Public Schools was honored today for the district's dedication to building a better Tulsa.

TPS leaders unveiled a new $60,000 CNG compressor, paid for by a grant from the Henry Bellmon Sustainability Award.

The compressor will help fuel the district's 148 CNG-powered school buses.

Superintendent Dr. Keith Ballard says this donation is a big deal, and it just proves community support is essential.

"We can't do this by ourselves,” Ballard said. “We can't get the results we want in student achievement, we can't get the results we want in conservation, we cannot do this [alone]. It takes the community."

Ballard says the new compressor will be up and running by the first day of school, which is just six days away.
