So many people are talking about the new Facebook messenger app and it's not because they like it.

Frankly, it's a little confusing, and for people concerned about privacy, they're downright scared. That was one of the biggest rumors that got people upset about Facebook messenger.

I spent hours checking out various tech blogs and websites, and what I learned is the answer to that question is no. For example, I wanted to change my password yesterday so Facebook sent me a text message to reset the code, so that's why it's asking for my phone number.

It does need permission to use the microphone and camera on your phone. But the company says the microphone is needed so you can send voice messages and videos with sound.

Same with the camera, it needs access to your camera if you want to send your pictures to your friends.
