The “Dog Days” of summer are upon us, meaning that summer has returned to Oklahoma with 90 plus degree days and light winds.

In ancient Greece, the Dog Days referred to Sirius, the brightest star in the sky besides our sun, was in the summer night sky and used as a reminder that summer was here.

Sirius was called the Dog Star by the Greeks, hence “The Dog Days of Summer.”

Your Oklahoma forecast includes a mild morning with much of the state in the 60s and 70s. Skies are clear and winds are southerly at 5-10mph. Later this afternoon, it will be hot with low to mid 90s for central Oklahoma, slightly higher out west.

Skies will be mostly sunny with a UV index of 10 out of 10. Winds will be southerly 10-15mph. Tonight, it will be hot and a little humid with the overnight low near 72.

Wednesday through Sunday will be hot and in the 90’s with a very slight chance for rain, anywhere from 10-30 percent. But don’t rely on the late summer rains for relief. Typically these rain chances are brief and fleeting.
