One of the two dogs found abandoned and malnourished at a Midwest City apartment has found his forever home.

On July 11, police said a maintenance worker at the Willow Creek Apartments found two dogs sitting in their own filth, with no food or water in their cage. The man accused of leaving the dogs in the apartment, Corey Harrison, was arrested on animal abuse charges.

The Bella Foundation, a non-profit organization, stepped in to help pay for the medical expenses for the two dogs.

The smaller, younger pit-bull mix named Sarge, was too weak to lift his head and required bottle-feedings. Sadly, 10 days after being rescued, Sarge passed away.

The other dog, Payton, has been staying with a foster family. On Friday, the Bella Foundation posted on its Facebook page that Payton has stolen the hearts of his foster family, and they have decided to give him a forever home.

Payton, now named “Bones McCoy,” has put on 12 pounds already. His new family said he loves to swim, go for walks with his new dad, and to just be a dog.
