Charges were filed Wednesday against a Del City man accused of attempting to run over an airman at Tinker Air Force Base.

United States Attorney Sanford C. Coats said 60-year-old James Williams was charged with assaulting a federal officer with a dangerous weapon.

According to court records, Williams was accused of refusing to stop on the base during a traffic stop, leading law enforcement from Tinker Air Force Base and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol on a high-speed chase and attempting to run over an Airman on June 26, 2014.

The court records state a Senior Airman attempted to close the gate to prevent Williams from exiting the base, and he accelerated towards the Airman, nearly striking her with the vehicle as it exited.

A preliminary hearing is set for August 15, 2014.

Officials say, if convicted, Williams faces up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
