A brazen thief hits a northeast Oklahoma City convenience store in the middle of the morning rush. He had no mask, no gun, but he had plenty of determination, reaching right over the counter to grab what he wanted.

The thief walked right in the door of the Checker’s convenience store and smoke shop just after 8:15 a.m. Thursday. He was in and out in a flash, but he left quite a mess in the process.

“It’s something that shouldn't happen to anybody,” Checker's owner, JJ Reshie, said.

He says they've been at the corner of N.E. 14th and Lottie for four years and seen a lot of customers walk in their door, but they have never been robbed before.

Fortunately, the surveillance cameras in the store were rolling.

“My uncle was working,” said Reshie. “And he asked him to grab him a pack of cigarettes.”

Reshie says, looking at the video, you can see the robber acts just like any other customer, asking his uncle questions about the various cigarettes they had.

Reshie says he thinks the robber was unsure at first whether he was going to go through with the heist, and then changed his mind when the opportunity to grab the register opened up.

“Because the guy who was outside waiting for him in the car kept yelling ‘What are you doing? What are you doing?’” said Reshie. "You know, 'Just leave it. Let’s go!'"

On the surveillance video, you can see the guy drops most of the stuff as he runs out and falls to the ground, but it doesn't stop him from getting back up and making his getaway.

Reshie says he just hopes police catch this guy before he rips off anyone else, but for now, he'll continue to do business as usual.

Police told News 9 they did get a good car description, which led them to a house where they did make several drug arrests, but so far the clumsy crook caught on tape is still on the loose.

If you have any information on who the suspect might be, call Crime Stoppers at 235-7300.
