Norman Police Investigating Alleged Assault Involving OU Football Player

A woman alleges that an OU football player assaulted her on campus early Friday morning.

Norman police are investigating an alleged assault involving OU freshman running back Joe Mixon.

According to the Norman Police Department, emergency crews responded to a report of aggravated assault around 2:40 a.m. Friday at Pickleman’s Gourmet Café, 759 Asp Avenue.


Norman police said they "contacted the reporting party, rendered aid, and conducted the initial investigation."


A witness told News 9 that Mixon assaulted a woman early Friday morning.  The victim said she was attacked and suffered several broken bones in her face.

A source tells us that Mixon will be arrested as soon as they can find him.

A spokesperson with the University of Oklahoma Athletic Department told News 9, “We are aware of the matter and it is under internal review.”

Mixon's attorney Kevin Finlay released the following statement Friday evening:

"He has been cooperating with the investigation and is looking forward to the truth coming out."

Finlay also told News 9 Mixon has not been arrested, and he has not been questioned by Norman police at this time.

Mixon was a five-star recruit and considered the best running back in the country by Rivals.com. As a senior at Freedom High School in Oakley, Calif., Mixon rushed for 1,704 yards and 23 touchdowns.
