A high-speed and dangerous police chase unfolded across the metro, and News 9 obtained new dash cam video from inside Warr Acres police cars.

If you were headed home from work Monday afternoon and saw police cars flying by or helicopters overhead, it was probably a police chase that started near NW 71st St. and MacArthur in Warr Acres.

From the streets, things got pretty intense as officers chased a motorcycle that was dangerously weaving in and out of late afternoon traffic. From the air, a bird's eye view from Bob Mills Sky News 9 witnessed the entire thing.

“He clipped that one car right there,” News 9 chopper pilot Jim Gardner said. “That one car tried to block him off.”

But the man on the bike, Jerod Thompson, kept going, sometimes into oncoming traffic.

“He has not yielded for traffic lights or stop signs,” Gardner said from the air.

He didn’t even yield to people.

“It looks like somebody is pushing a baby stroller down that street,” Gardner said. “Luckily he didn’t turn down that street.”

However, there were plenty he did turn down, leading police on a rush hour chase that lasted nearly 40 minutes. Thompson finally circled into a neighborhood and his run slowly came to an end in someone's driveway.

“OK. They’ve got him stopped,” Gardner said. “[It] looks like they’re going to take him into custody.”

Thompson had a lot to say to our cameras, but his words were not as powerful as the windows in the police car. However, people who live nearby sure had a few words for him.

“What a dumb***,” Jeff Pearson said. “You can’t get away anymore. You can’t do that. It’s sheer stupidity to even think you can.”

Police say Thompson threw out a crack pipe during the chase that ended in a neighborhood near NW 11th St. and Meridian. He is facing at least eight charges including felony eluding, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, assault with a deadly weapon and no driver's license.
