With the summer heat bearing down on us, the Salvation Army has teamed up with Westlake Ace Hardware to help collect money for fans.

The hardware store donated 150 box fans to the cause, helping families in need to stay cool this summer.

A fan drive kickoff celebration is scheduled for Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Westlake Ace Hardware store, located at 11801 S. Western.

Organizers say customers can make a monetary donation at any local Westlake store if they want to help.

The Salvation Army will then distribute the fans to qualified senior citizens, age 62 and older; families with infants under 6-months, and the disabled with chronic illnesses, such as cardiovascular disease, asthma, emphysema, and people taking psychotropic and other medication.

“Heat poses a very real danger to our elderly clients, families with young children and those with medical issues,” said Ashley Jones, Director of Social Services for The Salvation Army Central Oklahoma Area Command. “All the money raised will stay in Oklahoma City and these box fans are critical to keeping those without air conditioning or who are on a fixed income, comfortable and safe during the hot summer months.”

For more information about eligibility to receive a fan, please call the Salvation Army Central Oklahoma Area Command at 405-246-1060.
