Groundbreaking set for Tulsa's newest park

Posted: Updated:

TULSA, Okla. (AP) - A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for the city's newest park along the Arkansas River.

The Sept. 20 event marks the beginning of the transformation of nearly 100 acres of Tulsa's waterfront. The project has been estimated to cost around $350 million.

The park to be called "A Gathering Place for Tulsa" is being funded by a mix of corporate and philanthropic Tulsa organizations, including a contribution of $200 million from the George Kaiser Family Foundation.

Kaiser is a lifelong Tulsan and one of the wealthiest people in the country. He's chairman of BOK Financial Corp. and a major shareholder in various energy and technology companies.
