Union Public Schools is providing incoming 8th graders with a fun and educational way to learn valuable engineering skills. This week, a group of 10 students is attending a week-long camp at the Tulsa Zoo.

They're designing and building one of the structures that will be used in the park, working to build a deck other zoo guests can enjoy for years.

They're learning to how to correctly make measurements and use power tools - basic ally learning how to assemble the deck from the ground up.

It's helping them gain valuable engineering skills.

The students are planning the project, reading the blueprints and building the deck. They are also learning teamwork and communication skills.

Students say they're having a blast.

It's a free camp that's open to all incoming Union 8th graders. The finished deck will be revealed Friday afternoon with a ribbon cutting.
