OKLAHOMA CITY -

The summertime heat will crank up this weekend, but it will be short-lived. Record breaking cool air arrives next week along with more rain chances.

We're in for another warm night tonight with lows in the mid-70s under mostly clear skies. Saturday the highs will crank up to the mid and upper 90s with a few areas reaching 100 degrees.

The humidity will be on the tame side this weekend, but there will still be a heat index that will range from 100 to 105 degrees across the state on Saturday. We'll be even hotter on Sunday as temperatures climb into the lower 100s. We are expected to reach the century mark in OKC for the first time this year.

The heat dome won't hang out long; a cool blast will arrive late Sunday and could spark a few showers and storms in far northern Oklahoma. Much cooler air arrives by mid-week along with rain and thunderstorms across the state.

A deep area of low pressure is going to plunge south originating from the North Pole. This will pull unseasonably cool air down to the south reaching Oklahoma by Wednesday and Thursday. This will result in near record overnight lows and record cool highs.
