NORMAN, Oklahoma - Norman police want to talk to a liquor store clerk who they say claimed he was an undercover law enforcement officer to an underage customer last week.

According to officials, on June 30, police received a call that an underaged male was being held against his will inside the Last Call Wine and Spirits, located at 3046 Classen Boulevard in Norman.

Police say the victim was caught attempting to purchase alcohol, and the victim’s parents received a call from a liquor store clerk who claimed to be Sgt. Williams with the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office.

The clerk told the parents if they did not bring $200 to the liquor store, the victim would be taken to jail. The parents arrived and gave the money to the suspect, who presented himself as a police officer to both the victim and his parents.

According to Norman police, the suspect patted the victim down and held him for approximately two hours while waiting for the parents to arrive. That family then complained to police.

Last Call’s owner, who refused to give us his name, says the suspect is his brother-in-law, and the police allegations aren't true.

“It’s a bit of a witch hunt,” he said. “Innocent until proven guilty.”

While police say they haven’t yet arrested the clerk, they are asking any underage members of the public to come forward if they were victimized by this same clerk in the same way. If so, contact the Norman Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division at 405-366-5235.

Police say they are considering charging the suspect with kidnapping and extortion.
