Authorities have reopened the northbound and southbound lanes of Lake Hefner Parkway in northwest Oklahoma City, after police deemed two suspicious backpack found in the area safe.

According to police, one backpack was found on the Hefner Road bridge over Lake Hefner Parkway. Authorities shut down the southbound and northbound lanes of Lake Hefner Parkway between Britton Road and 63rd Street just before 10 a.m., as police investigated this backpack.

Drivers were asked to avoid the area. At about 12:40 p.m., crews reopened Hefner Parkway after police deemed the backpack safe.

A second backpack was found in the area of S. Lake Hefner Drive and Portland. Police deemed that backpack safe just before 1 p.m. The intersection has reopened.

Police say the backpacks possibly belong to runners, because they contained items such as drinks and clothes. But it is unclear at this time why one of the bags was suspended off of a bridge.
