Salvation Army fan drive to help those in need

Posted: Updated:

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The Oklahoma City Salvation Army and Westlake Ace Hardware stores are partnering to raise money to buy fans for needy customers trying to beat the sweltering heat.

From July 19 to Aug. 3, all Oklahoma City-area Westlake Hardware stores will collect donations to benefit The Salvation Army in Oklahoma City.

For every dollar raised during the two-week period, Westlake Hardware will purchase fans at cost for The Salvation Army so the agency can provide even more fans to Oklahoma City residents when demand is the highest.

Fans will be distributed by The Salvation Army to qualified senior citizens age 62 and older, families with infants under 6 months and the disabled with chronic illnesses, among others, to help them beat the heat.
