Police had their hands full trying to subdue a suspect during a gang and narcotics investigation at a home in northeast Oklahoma City.

OKC Police were on patrol on July 2 in regards to high drug and gang activity occurring in the area of Westminster and NE 43rd St. The patrol centered around a specific residence in the 11000 block of NE 43rd.

Just before 8 p.m. multiple units from the gang unit responded to the residence. Upon arrival the officers witnessed several suspects running from the back of the home. Some of the officers made pursuit, while two others remained at the home.

According to the report, another man, identified as 38-year-old Steven Hutson, came to the front door of the home. The officers asked him to come outside with his hands up. Hutson briefly complied, but when the officers attempted to give him a pat down, Hutson began to resist.

Hutson was then put in handcuffs and escorted to the back of the police car. While walking to the car, the officers noticed Hutson trying to remove something from his back pocket. When they asked him to drop what he had. The officers noted they could see parts of a clear plastic baggy sticking out between his knuckles.

Hutson would not let go of the baggy and began to struggle with the officers. The fight continued from the car, to the ground before one of the officers used their taser to try and subdue Hutson. The officers said the taser was only effective in getting Hutson to the ground, but was not enough to keep him from fighting once the effects wore off.

A third officer soon arrived to help control Hutson, and place him in additional restraints. The baggy was soon retrieved and, after field testing, was confirmed to be cocaine. Hutson was then placed under arrest for possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS).

During the whole process Hutson remained uncooperative. The officers say he continued to yell at them and say he was going to keep fighting.  Even while in the back of the patrol car on the way to the hospital, the officers say Hutson attempted to kick out one of the rear windows. The officers pulled over and deployed their mace to get him to calm down.

According to police, the mace was successful, and they were able to get Hutson to Presbyterian Hospital without further incident. After being checked out he was booked into the Oklahoma County Jail on multiple charges, including Trafficking a CDS, Weapons Possession Charges, Resisting Arrest, Threatening Acts of Violence and Possession of Drug Proceeds. Details on a possible bond were not available.
