Redhawk Bats Remain Hot Against Sky Sox

For the second straight game the Oklahoma City Redhawks reached 10 runs, and the strong offensive effort allowed them to overcome an early three-run deficit in a 10-6 win over the Colorado Springs Sky Sox Monday night at Security Service Field.

It's the second time this season the Redhawks (45-40) have scored 10 or more runs in consecutive games, first accomplished May 23-24 in Memphis. They tallied 16 hits Monday night, giving them a total of 33 the past two games.

Six players finished with a multi-hit game, led by Kiké Hernandez and Preston Tucker, who had three each.

All three of Hernandez's hits went for extra-bases, with a home run and two doubles. He set a season-high with four RBI and scored twice.

For the fourth straight game, the Redhawks allowed the opposition to score in the first inning. The Sky Sox took an early lead in their first at-bat after a walk and a hit batter put two runners on. Kyle Parker then hit a two-run double to left-center field to score both and make it 2-0.

Colorado Springs (35-49) added to the lead in the next inning when Tim Wheeler hit a solo home run. It's the second time Wheeler hit a home run off Redhawks pitcher Rudy Owens this season, both at Security Service Field.

The Redhawks scored four times in the third to take their first lead. The Sky Sox aided the Redhawks by committing two errors, leading to all four runs being unearned against Colorado Springs pitcher Mike McClendon. Austin Wates singled home the first run, and an error on the next play by second baseman Angelys Nina allowed another to score.

Domingo Santana tied the game with a RBI single, and Hernandez put the Redhawks in front with a RBI double.

Robbie Grossman extended the lead in the fourth with a RBI groundout, but the Sky Sox responded with a run in the bottom of the inning. Dustin Garneau and Drew Garcia hit back-to-back doubles to make it 5-4.

With a runner on in the fifth, Hernandez blasted a ball to center field for his eighth homer of the season. His two-run shot put the Redhawks in front, 7-4.

Delta Cleary, Jr. chipped in with a RBI groundout in the bottom of the sixth for Colorado Springs, trimming the Redhawks lead to two.

The Redhawks scored three more times in the seventh to take their largest lead of the night at five runs. Hernandez collected his third extra-base hit with a RBI double. Preston Tucker added a RBI groundout, and Matt Duffy followed with a RBI single to make it 10-5.

A wild pitch by Alex White in the bottom of the seventh inning allowed a run to score for the Sky Sox, pulling Colorado Springs within four runs.

The Sky Sox would get no closer, as Jorge De Leon held them scoreless over the final two innings to close things out.

Owens (4-4) evened up his season record and took the victory. Although he got off to a tough start, he got through 5.1 innings and never surrendered the lead once the Redhawks jumped in front. He allowed five runs (four earned) and six hits with two strikeouts. He walked a season-high five batters despite entering Monday having walked just 10 batters all season.

McClendon (1-1) picked up the loss after allowing seven runs (three earned) and 11 hits over five innings. He struck out four and did not allow a walk.

The Redhawks continue their series against the Sky Sox at at 8:05 p.m. Central time Tuesday night.
