BROKEN ARROW, Oklahoma -

Rockets Over Rhema lit up the sky in Broken Arrow on Sunday evening as one of the first big fireworks displays of the celebration season.

It's an annual show that brings crowds from all over Northeastern Oklahoma. More than 55,000 people attended, officials said. Once again, they ushered in Independence Day festivities.

There was a band, bounce houses, car show, mechanical bull and, of course, food. There were sno cones, roasted corn, turkey legs and bacon everything.

Live music played throughout the afternoon, and the Christian band "Plumb" headlined.

This is the 11th year Rhema Bible Church is hosting this event. Coordinators say it's all for the community.

"We take the responsibility as a church to be a part of the community and it's always something that we like to give back, especially on important holidays like July Fourth," David Wildman said.

Our Own 6 In The Morning anchors Leanne Taylor, Rich Lenz and Alan Crone emceed the event.

The fireworks began at 10 p.m. and were set to patriotic music. The show lasted about 20 minutes and is one of the most impressive in the state.
