Three people are dead following the collision of two Freightliner trucks in Pushmataha County, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

It happened at 1:11 p.m. Thursday on the Indian Nations Turnpike at mile marker 14. Troopers say both trucks were northbound on the turnpike in the right lane when the lead truck tried to make a u-turn using a turnpike maintenance cross over.

The driver of the following truck was unable to avoid hitting the lead truck. One truck came to rest in the center median while the other blocked the southbound lanes, the collision report states.

Both drivers were killed as well as a passenger riding in one of the vehicles.

OHP has not released the names of the dead pending identification by the medical examiner's office. They are investigating the driver's condition before the wreck.
