RedHawks Crushed By Las Vegas

Posted: Updated:

Domingo Santana homered in the first inning for the Oklahoma City RedHawks, but the Las Vegas 51s responded with seven straight runs in a 7-1 win Saturday in front of 10,049 at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

The RedHawks (37-33) took the first lead of the game, but were held scoreless after the first inning, as Las Vegas (40-29) evened the series between the teams, 1-1.

The RedHawks collected nine hits, marking just the second time they were held to less than 11 hits in a span of eight games. Saturday also ended a stretch of three straight games with at least six runs scored by Oklahoma City.

Las Vegas pitcher Darin Gorski replaced starting pitcher Rafael Montero after 1/3 of an inning and went on to earn his first win of the season. Montero threw just five pitches in the first inning before leaving the game with an apparent injury.

Gorski (1-1) held the RedHawks to one run on five hits, walked four and struck out two over 6.2 innings.

With two outs in the bottom of the first inning, Santana hit a solo home run just over the wall in right-center field for a 1-0 RedHawks lead.

Las Vegas took a 2-1 lead in the third inning on a two-run homer into the left field bleachers by d'Arnaud with two outs. The home run was the first allowed by RedHawks starting pitcher Mike Foltynewicz (5-4) since May 5.

Kirk Nieuwenhuis doubled to lead off the fourth inning and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Brandon Allen to take a 3-1 lead.

The 51s added three runs in the top of the fifth inning for a 6-1 advantage, starting when d'Arnaud hit into a fielder's choice that allowed Anthony Seratelli to score. Allan Dykstra followed with a triple on a fly ball to right field to bring home d'Arnaud. Two batters later, Kirk Nieuwenhuis connected on a RBI single with two outs.

A RBI double from Cesar Puello in the eighth inning pushed the 51s ahead, 7-1.

Foltynewicz allowed a season-high seven hits and tied a season high with six runs allowed over 4.2 innings. He walked three and struck out five in the loss.

The RedHawks set a season high by hitting into four double plays Saturday.

The RedHawks continue their series against Las Vegas with a 6:05 p.m. game Sunday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Select players will be available for autographs in the Team Store prior to every Sunday home game. Also after every Sunday home game, kids can run the bases.
