Salt Lake Shuts Out RedHawks

Posted: Updated:

The surging Oklahoma City RedHawks offense came to a halt in a 4-0 loss to the Salt Lake Bees Tuesday in front of 3,927 at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

The Bees (25-41) took a 2-0 lead with runs in the third and fourth innings before tacking on two more runs in the top of the ninth inning as they evened the series, 1-1.

The RedHawks (35-31) entered the game on a three-game winning streak, and had recorded at least 11 hits in each of their previous three games.

They were held to four hits Tuesday in their fourth shutout loss of the season, as five pitchers from the Bees bullpen combined to stop the RedHawks offense.

Salt Lake took a 1-0 lead in the third when John Hester homered on a fly ball to left field to lead off the inning.

The Bees added to their lead in the fourth inning. Brennan Boesch tripled on a fly ball to center field, then scored on a RBI groundout by Luis Jimenez for a 2-0 Salt Lake lead.

RedHawks starting pitcher Bobby Doran (1-4) made a spot start, throwing 6.0 innings. He allowed two runs on five hits, walked two and struck out five in the loss.

Jorge De Leon pitched two scoreless innings for Oklahoma City before being replaced by Jason Stoffel in the ninth inning.

An error by RedHawks infielder Kiké Hernandez – the first committed by the RedHawks in a 12-game span – helped the Bees put together some late offense in the top of the ninth inning.

Boesch reached on the error before Jimenez and Tommy Field followed with singles to load the bases. Stoffel got Hester to strike out for the second out of the inning, but Roberto Lopez followed with a two-run double to extend the Bees to a 4-0 lead.

Bees pitcher Kyler Newby made a spot start, throwing 2.0 innings. Jeremy Berg (2-2) entered the game in the fifth inning and earned the win, striking out five over 2.2 scoreless and hitless innings.

The RedHawks continue their four-game series with Salt Lake at 11:05 a.m. Wednesday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
