Citizens Help Oklahoma County Sheriff's Deputies Make Arrest

Good Samaritans came to the aid of two Oklahoma County Sheriff's deputies who were struggling with a suspect at a traffic stop on Sunday.

According to the sheriff's office, a deputy pulled over the suspect, identified as 39-year-old Gregory Vance Evans, for a busted taillight on I-235 near NW 36th St.

During the traffic stop the deputy reported Evans getting more and more agitated before approaching the deputy and throwing a punch. Another deputy soon arrived and the two attempted to get control of Evans.

Evans put up a fight, biting and kicking the deputies in a struggle to get away. It was at this time that two civilians stepped in and helped subdue the suspect. One Evans was safely secured into the back of one of the deputy's vehicles, a search was conducted on his car.  

Inside the deputies found drugs, which Evans admitted was methamphetamine.

One of the deputies was injured during the arrest, with scrapes, bruises and bite marks on one of his fingers.  

Evans was booked into the Oklahoma County Jail. He is facing charges of assault and battery of a peace officer and possession of a controlled dangerous substance. His bond was set at $7,000.

Police did not identify either of the two citizens who helped make the arrest.
