Reports: Thunder And Knicks Revisiting Shumpert Trade

Posted: Updated:

Multiple outlets are reporting that the Thunder and Knicks are revisiting a proposed deal that would bring guard Iman Shumpert to Oklahoma City for a first-round draft pick.

The Thunder have the 21st and 29th picks in the draft on June 26. Already infused with youth, Oklahoma City could replace Thabo Sefolosha, who is entering free agency, with Shumpert and still use one of its two draft choices on a prospect.

The Knicks don't have any picks or salary cap space; getting the Thunder's 29th pick, as the teams discussed in February, gets them in the draft and dealing Shumpert clears cap room.

Shumpert had a disappointing season in 2013-14, averaging 6.7 points per game and shooting just 37.8 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from 3-point range. His best assets are on the defensive end where his 6-foot-5, 220-pound frame and spectacular athleticism allows him to defend shooting guards and small forwards at a lock-down level.

Shumpert has one year left on his $2.76 million contract with a qualifying offer available in 2015-16.
